2-Factor Authentication/Microsoft Authenticator app Setup and Use Instructions

Below, you will find two options to sign in and initialize the 2-factor authentication: Option #1 through the Microsoft Authenticator app on Apple or Android devices and Option #2, to authenticate on a computer via the https://aka.ms/mfasetup website

Option #1: Microsoft Authenticator app
1. Employees can use the Microsoft Authenticator app (which can be downloaded on the Google Play store for Android phones and/or tablets or on the App Store for Apple iPhone and/or iPads.
***NOTE*** If you don’t have a somewhat recent Apple or Android device and/or can’t install the latest version of the Microsoft Authenticator app, its functionality may be limited
2. Once the app is downloaded, open it and tap the + symbol in the top right corner. Then, tap “Work or School Account” followed by tapping “Sign In”.
3. Sign in to it with your email address and password.
4. On the next screen, tap “I can’t use my Microsoft Authenticator app right now” or “Sign In another way” or “get a code a different way”, whichever of these options is available.
5. On the next screen, tap “Text X XXX XXX XXXX” (the last two X’s should be the last two digits of your cell phone number.)
6. Enter the 6-digit code sent/texted to your phone, then click “Verify”

Option #2 – On the Computer/Web Browser
1. On your computer, open a web browser and go to https://aka.ms/mfasetup
2. Sign in to it with your email address and password.
3. On the next page, click “I can’t use my Microsoft Authenticator app right now” or “Sign In another way” or “get a code a different way”, whichever of these options is available.
3. On the next screen, click “Text XX XXX XXX XXXX” (the last two X’s should be the last two digits of your cell phone number.)
4. Enter the 6-digit code sent/texted to your phone, then click “Verify”
5. If prompted to “Stay signed in”, click “Yes” if you’d like to reduce the number of times you are asked to authenticate when you sign in to your account (for the sake of greater security, this is not recommended). Otherwise, click “No”

The steps above basically register and initialize your account to use the Microsoft Authenticator. Going forward, whenever you sign in to your account with your email address and password, it will often request a code from your Microsoft Authenticator app. Do the following to get the code.
1. Open your Microsoft Authenticator app on your Apple or Android phone or tablet
2. Tap the listing/account that has your account
3. Enter the provided 6-digit “one-time password code” (If you have trouble getting a code, perform steps 3a-3c)
3a. If you have trouble getting the code, you can click “I can’t use myMicrosoft Authenticator app right now” or “Sign In another way” or “get a code a different way”, whichever of these options is available.
3b. On the next screen, click “Text XX XXX XXX XXXX” (the last two X’s should be the last two digits of your cell phone number.)
3c. Enter the 6-digit code sent/texted to your phone, then click “Verify”
4. If prompted to “Stay signed in”, click “Yes” if you’d like to reduce the number of times you are asked to authenticate when you sign in to your account (for the sake of greater security, this is not recommended). Otherwise, click “No”
